Lessons learned from falling off the “diet” wagon

A potent reminder about immune boosting foods

I do my best to practice what I preach. But about a month ago, I “fell off the diet wagon” with one of the top 5 diet changes I always urge people with a Staph infection or MRSA to make. Luckily, my diet is back to normal now, and I re-learned a valuable lesson along the way.

This last month things got pretty stressful here at Staph Infection Resources. The company we’ve used to print and ship our book for the last 3 years informed us they were closing their doors. My husband Les and I were doing lots of scrambling, damage control and late night worrying trying to find another printer and shipper.

Long story short, because of stress and being thrown off our routine, we stopped drinking our daily green smoothies.

You probably know I tout green smoothies as one of the easiest way to get more immune boosting foods in your diet. Green smoothies are one of the best foods for increasing your energy and helping support your body in fighting infections.

At first, we thought stress was the reason we felt so tired, so irritable and were craving sweets. But after a few days back on the green smoothies, we couldn’t believe how much better we felt. Almost overnight we had more energy and were in a better mood. And no more annoying sugar cravings.

Re-learning an important lesson

Sometimes the best way to appreciate something is to be without it for a while. We got to re-learn just how powerful a simple diet change can be.

Fortunately, I haven’t had a recurrence of my Staph infection in over 9 years now, and changes to my diet was a huge factor in my recovery. It has always amazed me how strongly food determines health. Making a few basic diet changes can have a profound effect on your energy, your immune system and your ability to heal and recover.

It’s encouraging that you don’t need to convert to a complete whole raw food diet to start seeing results, but that simple additions can make a big effect.
